Description:

Abstract:: New Jersey Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NJPDES) surface water discharge pipe GIS point coverage compiled from GPSed locations, NJPDES databases, and permit applications. This coverage contains the surface water discharge points and the receiving waters coordinates for the active as well as terminated pipes.
Purpose:: Gather together all NJPDES surface water discharge locations into one comprehensive coverage. Update the coverages which have been compiled in the past and to improve the accuracy of the locations to within 20 feet of the actual discharge.

Process_Description:: All GPS collection was done following NJDEP GPS Data Collection Standards. The GPS data was processed and checked by NJDEP using Trimble Navigation Pfinder GPS processing software, and Arc/Info GIS. GPS base data used to perform differential corrections on the GPS data was collected by NJDEP with its base station in Trenton. The dataset was built in Arc/Info GIS by appending datasets into a final regional dataset.
In decreasing order of accuracy, the other locations were derived from digitizing the locations as shown on site plans, copies of topoquads and other maps, and/or address matching. As the outfalls are GPSed, these other points will be replaced with the more accurate locations.
