Rutgers University has created a
Professional Certificate Program in Geomatics. Participants can take a series of courses to
develop GIS skills which can be applied to their work. NJDEP has entered into a partnership where
these courses are offered during the day in the Trenton area.
"Geomatics" -- are computer technology tools
that streamline your land use, urban and environmental planning and other
decision-making processes. It centers
on the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in conjunction with the
related technologies of GPS (Global Positions Systems), spatial database
management, Internet/Intranet applications for distributing geospatial
information, remote sensing and photogrammetry.
The Geomatics Certificate program is ideal for professionals
that are delving into GIS but have formal degrees in other areas of expertise. It provides a broad
range of exposure to Geomatics technology and provides a base upon which to measure GIS education in

The Geomatics certificate program has been temporarily
halted due to budget constraints. BGIS is hopeful to renew the program for FY2011.
