NJDEP GIS has Discontinued Distribution of CDROM Series # 1, Volumes 1, 2, and 3
The New Jersey DEP, BGIA has a long
history of distributing environmental data via CDROM to the public.
The first Series of CDROMS consisted of four volumes published in 1996.
These volumes contained ArcINFO Export data including county, coast
and statewide data directories. Many of these layers have since been
revised (improved) and some are no longer supported. In addition,
the metadata requirements for documenting these data have also changed
considerably to the new Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC)
metadata standard. Consequently, the NJDEP no longer distributes the
CDROM Series # 1, Volumes 1, 2 and 3. These data are being replaced
by downloadable GIS shapefiles on the
Digital Data Download
page of this web site. Series # 1, Volume 4, Tidelands Claim Maps will continue to be
distributed as this data has not changed over time.
The
New Jersey Geographic Information Network
is a a comprehensive site to find and share GIS information, spatial data, interactive mapping applications and resources.
The NRCS has posted seven counties of updated soils data on the
internet at
ftp://ftp.ftw.nrcs.usda.gov/pub/ssurgo/online98/data/.
As of this posting Hunterdon, Morris, Bergen, Union, Somerset,
Cape May and Cumberland are available as ArcInfo Export. This data
will have to be projected to New Jersey State Plane Feet.
For updated geology information consult the internet at the
New Jersey Geologic Survey.
