| Soils (SSURGO):
New SSURGO soils layers were developed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), of the US Department
of Agriculture, as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The data are from the Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO)
database developed and maintained by the NRCS.Since the original posting of SSURGO data sets, the NRCS has modified the
data structure of the digital soils data, and posted the new data sets for twenty New Jersey counties on their new
distribution site, the Soil Data Mart.
Spatial data are available from the Soil Data Mart in a variety of formats (including ESRI shapefile), coordinate reference
systems, and tabular data available for viewing or for download as Microsoft Access databases. SSURGO data sets are updated
regularly and the NJDEP requests users visit the Soil Data Mart to download data for each county, and to view all original
NRCS metadata and documentation. Specific questions concerning any of the SSURGO spatial or tabular data should be referred
to the New Jersey NRCS office.
