| 2002 Stream Network:
The 2002 Stream Network was created by heads-up digitizing of hydrography features from the 2002 color infrared (CIR) imagery.
It was completed in conjunction with the 2002 Land Use / Land Cover update and is designed to be used with water body features
from that layer. This stream data layer replaces the DRAFT version as of June 2008. It is provided here in ESRI 9.1 personal
geodatabase format with geometric networks, which can be used with the Utility Network Analyst toolbar. The shape files are
for display and query only and are not networked.
NJDEP/BGIS is committed to the development of stream (flowline) feature class, which will meet the USGS National Hydrography
Dataset standards. BGIS verified that flow direction of each stream is correct to facilitate the development of geometric networks.
Name attributes from the Surface Water Quality Standards layer, USGS NHDgeo NHDFlowline feature class, and earlier Hydrography
layers were transferred to this layer appropriately. Discrepancies exist between these layers as well as published USGS topographic
maps. These will be evaluated and corrected in later versions. All "unnamed tributaries" flowing into a named watercourse have
the "- UNT" extension. GNIS_ID, GNIS_NAME, FTYPE, and FCODE attributes are NHD compliant and were transferred from the NHDgeo data
layers. NJDEP/BGIS is working with USGS to transfer the COMIDS and REACHCODES to this new data and assign new codes for new lines.
