PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Air Pollution Compliance and Enforcement Program perform air pollution control activities to ensure compliance with the Air Pollution Control Act and subsequent regulations. Activities include conducting inspections and investigation to determine compliance with permits and/or regulations, investigating complaints and performing oversight of stack emission testing. Additional activities include providing compliance assistance, collecting samples and gathering evidence and issuing enforcement documents. The program also assists the Attorney General’s Office in developing enforcement cases and testifying in court, and negotiating compliance schedules and penalty settlements.
It should be noted that local governments are prohibited from implementing air pollution control ordinances as of June 15, 1995.

MONETARY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED:
No monetary assistance is provided. However, the County Environmental Health Act (CEHA) Program provides grant money to certified county health agencies for the purpose of supporting environmental health services, including air pollution control. This program can provide free on-site compliance assistance upon request to determine regulatory compliance under the department’s Greenstart program.
