PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The department pre-qualifies environmental consultants meeting rigorous education, experience and professional requirements as "Cleanup Stars." These "Cleanup Stars" are permitted to investigate and remediate certain low-priority sites and areas of concern with limited departmental oversight. The department will strictly audit Cleanup Stars' work to ensure regulatory compliance and protection of public health and the environment.

By establishing and strictly enforcing the requirements of the Cleanup Star Program, the department will ensure that the investigation and remediation of Cleanup Star sites is completed in full compliance with the Technical Requirements for Site Remediation and other appropriate standards. In addition, a certain portion of all cases coming through the program will be audited to ensure the integrity of all Cleanup Stars' work product.
