PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This innovative legislation mandates that when a state entity plans to deforest one-half acre or more, a reforestation plan must first be approved by the Division of Parks and Forestry.  A hierarchy of lands for the replanting of the trees begins with adjacent lands, state-owned lands within the municipality and then property owned by the municipality. Reforestation plan guidelines are followed to obtain a no-net-loss effect.

MONETARY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED

Through the monetary compensation option a state entity may choose to meet the requirements of the Act without administering and managing a tree planting project. Funds provided to the Division of Parks and Forestry through this option are provided to local, state or other state agencies depending on the hierarchy of sites adjacent to the deforestation.

PERMITTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

PUBLICATIONS AVAILABLE:

Several publications are available that would assist communities in understanding and participating in the No Net Loss Reforestation Program.  These include program guidelines, tree specifications and practices, general program brochures, grant applications and instructions, and other specific community forestry items.
