PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Bureau of Radiological Health has three distinct business functions: It is responsible for the registration and inspection of all x-ray equipment used within the state; as well as offering examinations and licensing in disciplines of radiologic technology, radiation therapy technology and nuclear medicine technology. The bureau reviews educational programs in the various disciplines of radiologic technology, radiation therapy technology and nuclear medicine technology. These educational programs must be approved by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. In addition to these state mandated functions, the bureau conducts inspections of federally certified mammography facilities located in New Jersey as a contract agent for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

PERMITTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
The bureau serves as an agent of the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (the Board) to ensure that all Board approved programs comply with its standards and radiation protection regulations. The bureau also functions as an agent of the Board to determine individuals’ eligibility for examination and licensure in radiologic technology, radiation therapy technology or nuclear medicine technology.
