DEP Consolidates Regional Enforcement Offices

(05/20) TRENTON -- Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell today visited DEP's new Hanover Township office to announce the consolidation of DEP's northern and metro regional enforcement offices. The new office, which is located in the Cedar Knolls section of Hanover Township, Morris County, will serve Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Morris, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon and Somerset counties.

"The consolidation of the northern and metro offices will save taxpayer funds and improve coordination between DEP staff currently housed in those offices," said Commissioner Campbell. "By moving northern and metro staff to a single, centrally located office, we can more quickly respond to environmental incidents and more efficiently inspect sites regulated by more than one program."

The northern enforcement office previously was located in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, Morris County. The metro enforcement office previously was located in West Orange Township, Essex County. The new office, which is located near Routes 287 and 10, provides DEP inspectors and emergency responders improved access to major highways and will enable them to more easily serve the nine northern counties.

One hundred ten compliance and enforcement and site remediation staff will work in the consolidated office. Compliance and enforcement staff assigned to this office inspect regulated facilities including hazardous waste generators, wastewater dischargers, drinking water suppliers and potential air pollution sources. The facility's site remediation personnel monitor industrial site cleanups and respond to environmental emergencies.

The consolidated northern-metro office complements DEP regional enforcement offices serving central and southern New Jersey. The offices are located in the Robbinsville section of Washington Township, Mercer County and in Camden City, Camden County.

To report environmental offenses to DEP programs housed in the new office, call the following telephone numbers:

  • Air Compliance & Enforcement (973) 656-4444;
  • Emergency Response (973) 631-6385;

  • Solid & Hazardous Waste Enforcement (973) 656-4470;
  • Water Compliance & Enforcement (973) 656-4099.
