Summer Lifeguards Needed in New Jersey State Parks

Free Training & Certification

(05/53) TRENTON -- The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry is recruiting staff for 180 lifeguard positions at swimming areas in state parks and forests. Testing, training and certification are provided free of charge.

"The public has a right to know that they are safe while visiting the state's many swimming areas," said DEP Assistant Commissioner John Watson. "We need interested individuals who want to provide a public service to the community and who like outdoor activities."

The starting salary for a lifeguard position is $7.50 per hour. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older. Applicants under 18 must have an official State Park Service permission slip signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate in lifeguard testing.

Applicants can learn valuable life aid skills such as responding to emergency situations and administering first aid, CPR, AEDs and oxygen.
