MEDIA ADVISORY

(02/69) RIDGEFIELD, NJ---Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell today at noon will announce a new initiative regarding tax incentives to encourage industrial facilities to reuse effluent from sewage treatment plants for industrial processes instead of using water from other sources such as streams, aquifers, or drinking water supplies. Campbell will make his announcement while touring PSEG Power's Bergen Generating Station.

New Jersey continues to be in a serious drought emergency statewide. The initiative being announced today will give industry added reasons to reduce their dependence on our valuable water resources.

Reservoir and groundwater levels continue to decline with water demand at its highest. To address the drought, the state must work with all constituencies to create ways to encourage water reuse to better manage the state's water supplies today and into the future.
