LOCAL GOVERNMENT GREENHOUSE GAS
REDUCTION GRANT PROGRAM
| NJDEP received a tremendous response to the program, receiving close to 300 applications from municipalities, counties, schools, local authorities and county colleges proposing well over 750 projects for many times the available grant funds. Given the overwhelming response, NJDEP is reviewing the applications and assessing maximum availability of funds prior to determining which applications will be asked to proceed to the second, full application phase. A schedule for issuing pre-application decisions and a revised full application deadline will be posted at the Grant Program website in the near future. Thank you. |
Pre-applications were due on September 4, 2009.
The Local Government Greenhouse Gas Reduction Grant Program was created by the NJ Global Warming Solutions Fund Act (P.L. 2007, Chapter 340; NJSA 26 :2C-50 et seq.) in an effort to move New Jersey closer to attaining its statewide limits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, and 80 percent below 2006 emissions levels by 2050.
This new local government grant program is a critical element in meeting New Jersey’s 2020 and 2050 statewide greenhouse gas limits. This grant program is intended to support New Jersey’s local government efforts to plan, develop and implement measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions through programs that result in energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed energy and sustainable land use planning. A paramount element of this program is the need for local governments to identify how their efforts result in measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions or energy demand.
