Becoming a New Jersey Forest Firewarden

We hope to interest YOU in becoming part of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. You could be one of the nearly 2,000 part-time fire fighters or have one of several full time careers with the agency. It’s a career path that offers many exciting opportunities and challenges.
Firefighting is only one of the many functions of the Forest Fire Service. Incident management, prescribed burning, firetower observation, training, outreach and education, community preparedness, mechanics and equipment development and testing, aviation, and hazardous fuel reduction projects are just some of the possibilities available.
The Forest Fire Service is one of the premier wildland firefighting agencies in the nation. We have highly trained and skilled workforce and we offer our employees many opportunities for career development.

The Forest fire Service is part of the Division of Parks and Forestry, which is within the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). We have four field offices located within the State and a central headquarters located in Trenton. Full time positions are hired through the Civil Service system. Current opportunities can be found at The Department of Personnel.
