This year's State Arbor Day Celebration was held in the
Manalapan Township Arboretum on April 27, 2001. Over 300
people participated in the annual event. Since 1949, the
New Jersey Legislature has set aside the last Friday in
April as Arbor Day to promote tree planting and to encourage
residents throughout the state to honor trees. Acting
Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco signed a proclamation stating
April 27, 2001 as Arbor Day this year. Awards were presented
to the Tree City USA communities celebrating their 25th,
20th, and 1st year anniversary. In addition 18 New Jersey
communities received Tree City USA Growth Awards. Click
