Tree City, USA

This national awards program annually recognizes New Jersey's towns and cities that meet the standards of the Tree City, U.S.A. program. These communities have shown an ongoing commitment to effectively managing their public tree resources, increasing public awareness and appreciation of trees, and providing an outstanding structure for a community forestry program. The State Forestry Service offers technical assistance in helping a community obtain Tree City status. Page down for a list of Tree Cities in New Jersey!

Municiple criteria for Tree City, USA status

All Tree Cities must have:

  • Standard 1 A tree board or department
  • Standard 2 A city tree ordinance
  • Standard 3 A community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita
  • Standard 4 An Arbor Day observance and Proclamation
