Professional Development Opportunities

The Interpretive Center offers environmental education enrichment workshops for teachers, educators and youth leaders. Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project Wild are national award winning supplemental environmental education curriculum that provide activities in science, math and other subjects. PLT/ Project Wild provide “hands on” activities which correlate to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. The Center offers a 5-hour workshop, several times a year, presenting this curriculum to formal or non-formal educators who work with grades K-8. Activity guides containing lessons, along with other related information, is given to each participant after the workshop. Contact the center for details at (732) 566-3208.

Boy and Girl Scout Opportunities

Cheesequake State Park has been serving the scouting community since 1984 and the park continues to provide scouts with projects and activities to meet their demanding badge requirements. Both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have taken advantage of the park to work on their nature and ecology badges. Scout leaders may get their training in outdoor education by signing up for a Project Learning Tree workshop, a fun, hands on, multidisciplinary environmental education curriculum which meets the badge requirements at all levels. The Center is proud of the many Boy and Girl Scouts who volunteer their services to the park. They have built stairways, bridges, footpaths and benches making our trails cleaner, safe and more attractive for the public. Call ahead to schedule an interpretive program conducted by the Park Resource Interpretive Specialist, which includes a guided nature hike to meet your troops badge requirements

Volunteer / Internship Opportunities

The Center is seeking volunteers to participate in the “Volunteers in the Park” (VIP) program at Cheesequake. Volunteers are needed for aquarium maintenance, light duties such as trail maintenance and interpretation at the Center. College Internships are also available for those majoring in Natural Resource Mgmt, Environmental science or other related fields. Interns will assist with a variety of programs involving plant and animal identification and environmental education. They will also learn how to interpret the natural resources of the park as they gain knowledge about the environment. Volunteers are also needed to locate and identify reptiles and amphibians within the park. Volunteer hours are flexible. Contact the center for more information at (732) 566-3208.
