Start Here! What Should I Do First?

The following steps will help lead you through the PWTA well testing process:

  1. Use the information that is provided on this site, or the advice of your attorney, to determine if you need to test a well for PWTA parameters. Click here for more information.

  2. Choose a NJ Certified Laboratory to perform the required PWTA sampling and analysis. Be sure to allow enough time to receive the test results and to resolve any problems before the real estate closing/lease of the property. Additional testing may also be required by the county or local health departments (pdf format).

  3. Understand your laboratory test results. Your laboratory test results must be sent to you on a standard form, the NJ Private Well Water Test Reporting Form (pdf format). If contamination is present, decide how you want to proceed. Is there treatment already in place to remove or treat this contamination? If no treatment is currently being used, you can visit the NSF International to determine what established treatment technology options are available for you.
