Bureau of Radiological Health (Bureau) Work Plan Retreat On April 24, 2007 Bureau management staff met to assess fiscal year 2007 accomplishments and to begin planning the Bureau’s fiscal year 2008 goals. While specific details have not yet been finalized, staff has identified several initiatives that it will focus on for fiscal year 2008 including:
Full details of the Bureau’s FY 2008 goals will be delineated in the final work plan document which will be completed in the near future. 2. Bureau Of Radiological Health (Bureau) Progress on Special Projects On April 17, 2007 the Bureau activated its newly constructed application program interface (API) to populate NJEMS Site Masterfile with the Bureau’s x-ray machine source facility information. Over 8,600 facilities were successfully loaded into the DEP’s Site Masterfile Database. In addition, the API automatically populates the Site Masterfile database will all edits and new facilities that are entered into the Bureau’s “x-ray” database. These accomplishments were realized with the support of Office of Information Resource Management staff and the Bureau’s computer contract vendor. 3. Bureau of Release Prevention Assistance to Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force Philip Polios participated in two Emergency Services Capability Assessments (ESCA) conducted by the Department of Homeland Security. The ESCA is part of the Chemical Comprehensive Review (CR) process and is intended to identify any gaps in Local, State, Regional, or Federal response to a terrorist incident through a tabletop exercise. Six of the Chemical CRs are being conducted around the country and two in New Jersey. They were held on April 24, 2007 in West Orange for Northern New Jersey and on April 26, 2007 in Clayton for the lower Delaware River Valley. 4. Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to Hold a Public Hearing in New Jersey The April 27, 2007 Federal Register announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will hold a public hearing, in two sessions, in Toms River on May 31, 2007. Any person who is not a party, or the representative of a party, to the contentions in the Oyster Creek License Renewal will be permitted to make an oral statement setting forth his or her position on matters of concern relating to the license renewal. The first session will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, the second session will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The location is the Ocean County Administration Building, Room 119, 101 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, New Jersey 08754. 5. Discharge Prevention, Containment and Countermeasure (DPCC) Program A seminar on the revised DPCC rules was given on April 23, 2007 in the public hearing room to approximately 80 people. Section Chief Beth Reddy, Philip Polios, Audrey Dorofy, Roy Soong and Chris Lucien presented the seminar. Several handouts and guidance documents were available for the audience. Additional members of the Bureau attended. |
