New Jersey hosted this year’s meeting of the Mid-Atlantic States Radiation Control Programs which was held in Lambertville, New Jersey on October 16 & 17, 2007. The Mid-Atlantic States are comprised of the radiation control programs of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Over two hundred state and federal inspectors, medical physicists, technologists and vendors took part in the two day event. Bureau of Radiological Health staff was responsible for securing the meeting location, a sponsor, 23 speakers and numerous other logistical tasks associated with the organization and coordination of this event. The Bureau has received numerous verbal and written compliments on both the meeting location and its agenda. The New Jersey Health Physics Society co-sponsored this event and assisted in many of the efforts to bring this meeting together.

3. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Publishes The Environmental Assessment for Hope Creek Power Uprate for Comment

Final review of the proposed EPU license amendment by the NRC is expected to be completed in early 2008, at which time the NRC will decide if the amendment will be issued. As part of this process, the NRC published in the Federal Register on October 22, 2007 the NRC’s draft License Amendment to Increase the Maximum Reactor Power Level at Hope Creek. This draft EA is the result of the NRC’s review of PSEG’s Environmental Report that PSEG included in the proposed EPU license amendment documentation on September 18, 2007. The Bureau of Nuclear Engineering, as well as other groups within the Department, is in the process of reviewing the documents.
