Bureau of Radiological Health (Bureau) Holds Public Hearing on Radiologic Technology Rule Proposal A public hearing was held on November 14, 2007 to receive public comments on the Department’s proposal to repeal existing rules and propose new rules on radiologic technology codified at N.J.A.C. 7:28-19. Seventeen members of the public attended the hearing of which seven provided oral comments on the rule proposal. The public comment period closed on November 30, 2007. The Bureau will review all oral and written comments received and provide its response to comments in the upcoming months. 2. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Provides Comments on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Environmental Assessment (EA) for Proposed Hope Creek Power Uprate The DEP completed its review of the NRC’s draft EA and “Finding of No Significant Impact Related to the Proposed License Amendment to Increase the Maximum Reactor Power Level at Hope Creek” that was published in the Federal Register on October 22, 2007. On November 21, 2007 the comments of the NJDEP were forwarded to the NRC. The comments are available as a downloadable document on the NJDEP website: www.nj.gov/dep/rpp/bne/bnedown.htm. The comments will also be available to the public once posted on the NRC Agency-wide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) accessible via the NRC website: www.nrc.gov. 3. Radioactive Materials Section (RMS) Training Course Attendance To Support Agreement State Initiativ Three RMS staff members attended a one week training course from November 5 – 9, 2007 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania covering the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations on radioactive materials transportation. This DOT course is one of several required courses that each member of the RMS will need to complete in support of the Agreement State initiative. One member of the RMS attended a three day training course from November 26 – 28, 2007 offered by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management in New Brunswick. The course focused on "Homeland Security Planning for Local Governments”, and discussed the many variables that must be considered when planning and responding to a terrorist incident. This course taught participants the skills and knowledge needed to effectively identify and address risks associated with terrorist events. |
