New Jersey is in the forefront of the Nation's effort to protect public safety and the environment from security threats. In September 2003, former Governor James McGreevey and the New Jersey Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force approved Security Best Practices guidance documents for facilities in both the chemical and petroleum sectors. These guidance documents, available for download from this site, were co-developed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Chemical and Petroleum Sector Infrastructure Advisory Committees.
Implementing these chemical and petroleum sector Best Practices became mandatory for certain facilities regulated by the TCPA and Discharge Prevention programs in November 2005, when former Attorney General Peter Harvey and former DEP Commissioner Bradley Campbell signed what is known as the Best Practices Standards at TCPA/DPCC Chemical Sector Facilities.
Information on this site is intended to assist the regulated community in complying with these requirements, and to provide the public with a better understanding of New Jersey's security effort.
