LIMITED ORTHOPEDIC RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY
Scope of Practice: A licensed orthopedic radiologic technologist is permitted to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures limited to the spine and extremities. A licensed orthopedic radiologic technologist is not permitted to operate fluoroscopic or computerized axial tomography equipment, perform portable, sternum, abdomen, ribs or bone densitometry procedures. The following tasks have been identified within the scope of practice of a licensed orthopedic radiologic technologist: positioning of the patient for a diagnostic radiographic procedure limited to the spine and extremities, measuring the patient, aligning the x-ray tube to the film receptacle, setting tube distance and exposure factors, exercising proper principles of radiation protection and making the exposure. Educational Requirement: Completion of a 1,400 hour course of study in an orthopedic radiography program approved by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (Board) or its equivalent as determined by the Board. If you did not complete a Board approved program, you must submit information contained in the examination/license appendix. Examination Application and Information: You must submit a complete application that meets the above Educational Requirement. The licensing examination is only offered via computer. The examination can be taken at one of over 200 test centers across the country. The minimum score needed to pass is 75%. This examination is administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Additional information about the examination can be found at www.arrt.org and click "Examinations". To be a licensed orthopedic radiologic technologist, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
* In order to determine equivalency, if you passed another state's examination, you must submit proof of a current state diagnostic radiography license and information from that state agency regarding its licensing examination. If this examination was administered by ARRT, you must also submit your scores in each of the examination's content areas. |
