Fort Mott State Park

Fort Mott, in Salem County, was built as part of the Federal Government's late 19th century plan to construct three forts to protect the growing industrial communities and shipping along the Delaware River. The buildings on this historic site were constructed in anticipation of possible European invasion just prior to the Spanish-American War. Free guided tours and outreach programs are offered by the interpretive staff. Operating hours vary, call in advance for schedule.

Highlights

  • Historic Fortification consisting of buildings that served as a self contained military community from 1897-1922.

  • New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Welcome Center, museum and gift shop featuring exhibits focusing on South Jersey history, the Delaware River and the construction of Fort Mott.

  • The State property at Fort Mott offers picnic areas, a playground, a self-guided walking tour, an interpretive trail to Finn's Point National Cemetery, fishing and a seasonal ferry to Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island.

  • A History Kit is available for pre and post visitation to supplement your curriculum. Call for arrangements and availability.
