The Pinelands Institute for Natural and Environmental Studies and the Whitesbog Preservation Trust

The Pinelands Institute for Natural and Environmental Studies (P.I.N.E.S.) is operated by Burlington County College, in cooperation with DEP. The DEP provides property, facilities, utilities and maintenance for this productive three-way partnership while the Institute and college provide staff, programming and publications. P.I.N.E.S. provides science and social studies field trip opportunities for students, while the college provides related programming for the general public. Both programs utilize the historic village, bogs and woodlands of Brendan T. Byrne State Forest.

Highlights

  • P.I.N.E.S. offers students interactive field trips focusing on the ecology of the Pinelands forests and wetlands, as well as on local agriculture and cranberry production. The cost is $10.00 per student and the trips are 3-4 hours in length.

  • Field trip opportunities are available for school students and adult groups, in-school presentations are available for some topics.
