Who Practices Environmental Education?

There are many people in New Jersey who practice environmental education full-time or use environmental education programs, materials and projects as part of their work or hobby.

Environmental educators work at or with nature and outdoor centers, parks, refuges, environmental education facilities, museums, zoos, environmental, science and conservation organizations, cooperative extension, aquariums, camps and companies. Environmental educators also act as consultants or are hired to work for a particular school district. Finally, environmental educators serve at various levels of government.

Environmental education is also practiced in the classroom by hundreds of teachers across the state working with kindergarten through high school students in a variety of subject areas. It is becoming more popular with pre-school teachers and is also taught or used at many New Jersey colleges and universities.

Finally, environmental education programs, activities, materials and projects are used by volunteer scout and youth group leaders, church groups, environmental commissions, civic and community service organizations, after-school program leaders, parents and student environmental clubs.
