DEP Announces Filing Extension for May 12, 2009 UST Exams
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has announced a filing extension through April 6, 2009 for individuals and businesses seeking certification for various activities related to regulated and unregulated underground storage tanks. The Underground Storage Tank Rules (N.J.A.C 7:14B) require all individuals and businesses engaged in underground storage tank (UST) installation, testing, corrosion protection and remediation to be certified. The exams are being offered May 12, 2009. Applicants are encouraged to read the application instructions carefully, and ensure that applications and any required supporting documentation are received by the DEP Exams and Licensing Unit by close of business on April 6. Information regarding UST Certification can be found at http://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/regs/ust/ or by calling the DEP Exams and Licensing Unit at (609) 777-1013.
The UST Sub-Surface Evaluation certification is required for environmental professionals seeking pre-qualification under the Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program. Environmental professionals performing remediation activities with funding provided under the Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Remediation, Upgrade and Closure Fund (UST Fund) must also hold an UST Sub-Surface Evaluation certification.
The DEP expects to announce the next application period for environmental professionals seeking pre-qualification under the Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program in June 2009. Environmental professionals are encouraged to review the Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program Guidance and the NJDEP Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program Application at http://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/unregulatedtanks/. The Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program Guidance explains the qualification criteria and the terms of the Unregulated Heating Oil Tank Program.
