Public Notification and Outreach Compliance Deadline is September 2, 2009
On September 2, 2008, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) adopted rules requiring those responsible for cleanups of contaminated sites to post signs or distribute notification letters informing local residents of work progress. For sites already undergoing cleanup, these rules require notification to take place within one year of the effective date.

Certification to perform services on unregulated heating oil
tanks.
On October 2, 2006, the Department of Environmental Protection adopted
special amendments and new rules to the Underground Storage Tank Rules,
N.J.A.C. 7:14B and amendments to the Department Oversight of the Remediation
of Contaminated Sites Rules, N.J.A.C. 7:26C. These amendments and new
rule were effective upon filing (October 3, 2006).
The law also mandates that a grant or loan from the fund established
under the Underground Storage Tank Finance Act to close or replace an
unregulated heating oil tank may only be made to reimburse the applicant
for work performed by a person certified by the Department.
