Subject [SRRA] Corrected extension date for mandating the use of the new Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons method

The previous listserv email had an incorrect extension date for mandating the use of the new Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons method. The correct extension date is September 1, 2010. This is the date listed in each of the three amended documents. The corrected information follows:

The following documents pertaining to extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (EPH) have been updated:

  • "Protocol for Addressing Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons" (new Version 4.0)
  • "EPH Protocol and EPH Method Phase-in" (new Version 2.0)
  • "Frequently Asked Questions for Petroleum Hydrocarbons" (new Version 3.0)

The only change made to each of the documents is to note that the Department is extending the date on which it becomes mandatory to use the new Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons method "Analysis of Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbon Compounds (EPH) in Aqueous and Soil/Sediment/Sludge Matrices" (NJDEP EPH 10/08 Revision 2) to analyze all samples associated with petroleum hydrocarbon discharges. The Department is extending the date to September 1, 2010. The phase-in date mandating the use of the new method is being extended due to Department concerns regarding the number of laboratories that will be certified to perform this new method by the originally mandated date of May 10, 2010. The first laboratory was certified as of April 8, 2010, and the Department will have certified several more laboratories by May 10, 2010.

The updated Protocol can be found at https://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/guidance/srra/eph_protocol.pdf,
the updated Phase-in at https://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/guidance/srra/eph_phasein.pdf,
and the updated FAQ at https://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/guidance/rs/eph_faq.htm.
