NEW JERSEY WATERSHED AMBASSADORS PROGRAM
Watershed Management Area 14
Mullica

My name is Erik Nash, and I am the 2007-2008 Watershed Ambassador for the Mullica Watershed. The Mullica Watershed drains the vast majority of the Pinelands and has other unique features including salt marshes and beaches. This watershed encompasses parts of Burlington, Atlantic and Ocean Counties. The five major rivers involved in the drainage of the area are the Mullica, Batsto, West Branch, Wading and Oswego Rivers. These rivers all eventually flow into the Great Bay before going into the Atlantic Ocean. It is important to note that while the waterways mentioned above are the major waterways in the area, there are countless other streams that feed these rivers including the Nochescatauxin Brook, Atsion Creek, Bass River, Nescochaque Creek, Landing Creek and Hammonton Creek.

In 2005, I graduated from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina with a B.S. in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology. I later returned to my roots in Southern New Jersey where I currently reside. My main interests include forest ecosystems, specifically the plant communities that live within them. I am also interested in promoting interaction and awareness of our own involvement within the ecosystems we live in.

And so I became a watershed ambassador. This position allows me to teach school groups, clubs and others interested in their environment, the watershed they live in and what small steps can be made to improve their community's quality of life. Please contact me if you are interested in monitoring your local waterway or would like to receive a presentation or activity tailored to your group or class. I am a free resource to the whole community and have many age appropriate talks and activities. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
