SUBMITTAL OF EPA TARGETED WATERSHED GRANTS

Nominations for the 2006 EPA Targeted Watershed Grant Program must be submitted by a governor or tribal leader. In New Jersey, the Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Watershed Management is coordinating application submittals on behalf of the Governor.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES:
Interested organizations must submit a letter of intent by September 22, 2006 to:
Ken Klipstein
NJDEP Division of Watershed Management
401 East State Street
PO Box 418
Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0418

A full proposal must be submitted to the NJDEP by October 13, 2006. Proposals will then be submitted by the USEPA by November 13, 2006.

The Targeted Watersheds Grant Program is a competitive EPA grant program that encourages the protection and restoration of the country's water resources through cooperative conservation. The program supports collaborative watershed partnerships that are ready to implement on-the-ground restoration and protection activities designed to achieve quick, measurable environmental results. The goal is to build on existing partnerships and coalitions that have evaluated and assessed their watershed, devised a technically sound watershed plan and are ready to embark on steps to implement their plans. A comprehensive overview and guidance documents are available online at www.epa.gov/twg/2006/2006factsheet.html

EPA is looking to fund proposals submitted by watershed organizations who have an in-depth knowledge of their watershed's ecology, propose an innovative and sound approach for combating threats and impairments, and possess a clear set of performance measures with identified, measurable enviromental indicators.
