DEP Seeks Input on Proposed TMDLs for Phosphorus Impairment
The DEP plans to propose TMDLs for phosphorus impairment in 18 - 21 stream segments throughout the State. The methodology to be used is a regression based on exceedances of the Surface Water Quality Standards criteria for phosphorus in streams to determine the load reduction needed to attain the criteria. The affected stream segments are identified by name in the associated spreadsheet and are depicted with respect to spatial extent on the assoicated maps. General information about TMDLs and the generic methodology is provided in the associated slide presentation. The Department seeks input from interested or affected stakeholders regarding the sources of phosphorus load in the impaired segments, the methodology proposed, and any projects that have recently been completed, are underway or proposed in these segments that would assist in reducing phosphorus loads. The scheduled date for proposal of the TMDLs is July 5, 2005; therefore, any information would need to be submitted by June 24, 2005 in order to be considered prior to proposal. If you have any information or comments you would like to have considered, please contact Barbara Hirst or Kimberly Cenno of the Division of Watershed Management at (609) 633-1441.
