During 2005 and 2006, the NJDEP
Well Permits program continued its ongoing efforts
to perform manual legacy data conversion activities
for existing well permits (650,000) and well
records (400,000) to NJEMS. In conjunction with
the data conversion effort, well permit and record
documents are scanned, indexed, and loaded into
an electronic document management system, which
interfaces with NJEMS. This document management
activity expands the universe of well information
by providing desktop access to original documents
which contain graphics and logs that are not
data managed. Well Permits has requested and
is participating in several enhancements to its
manual data entry Well Wizards in NJEMS to improve
processing performance and efficiency in NJEMS.
NJDEP
continues its ongoing efforts to improve document
management and imaging systems, currently in
HighView, and is developing an NJEMS interface
to integrate HighView with NJEMS to make the
images readily available to the NJDEP users and
to the public, as appropriate. This effort includes
consideration, planning, and implementation of
upgrades to database, hardware and software,
as well as the development of an NJDEP “roadmap” for
document imaging, enhancements and new applications.
