The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Technical Assistance assists in ensuring public water systems satisfy Federal and State drinking water requirements. The Bureau is responsible for a variety of programs including the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, Private Well Testing Act, Capacity Development, Operator Certification, Childcare Drinking Water Certifications, and Drinking Water Quality Institute. The Bureau also assists the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Implementation in water system compliance issues.
The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Technical Assistance also:
- Coordinates the Source Water Assessment Program.
- Implements the Private Well Testing Act.
- Performs Capacity Development reviews for the operation of new public water systems.
- Administers Capacity Development Program for existing public water systems.
- Issues Drinking Water Certificates for childcares under N.J.A.C. 10:122-5.2(i)(4).
- Provides support to the Division of Water Supply programs for Geographic Information Systems needs.
- Assesses current training activities and identifies training needs for water system operators for continuing education requirements.
- Provides assistance to small public water systems serving less than 10,000 persons.
- Provides quality assurance oversight for both analytical data and source water information.
- Processes synthetic organic compound waivers for water systems.
- Manages Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule.
- Reviews Consumer Confidence Reports.
- Coordinates the activities of the Drinking Water Quality Institute with the Division of Science Research and Technology.
- Develops Drinking Water Violations Annual Report.
- Administers water supply loans and set-asides through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program.
