Water
Monitoring and Standards (WM&S) has primary responsibility
for ambient monitoring of the State’s fresh, marine,
and ground waters, development of surface and ground water
quality standards, and water quality characterizations
and assessment. The program provides monitoring and water
quality information, via collection, analysis and distribution
of data and reports, for use by DEP, other organizations,
and the public to make informed environmental and public
health decisions.

Special Notice:
The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) has published a Request for Proposals for Nutrient Assessment and Management in Shallow Coastal Embayments in New York and New Jersey. NEIWPCC is seeking applicants to develop site-specific nutrient management plans, including the determination of appropriate numeric criteria or endpoints, for one or more coastal bay systems in the New York-New Jersey area. Projects must be completed in a two year timeframe. Geographic target areas in New Jersey include shallow coastal embayments in New York-New Jersey Harbor, Barnegat Bay, Little Egg Harbor, Great Egg Harbor Bay, Manahawkin Bay, Mullica River Estuary, and the mouth of the Navisink River.
