Water Quality Data

The data collected through the water monitoring networks and projects, conducted by the Water Monitoring and Standards program, resides in a variety of locations including published reports and on-line databases (DEP databases as well as federal/national databases). Clicking on any of the links below will take you to the location where the particular data are housed.

Freshwater Data

Data for the following 4 monitoring networks/efforts are contained in electronically available, published reports.

• Ambient Biological Monitoring Network (AMNET) data
• 2002-2004 AMNET data for waters in the Highlands region
• AMNET Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3 data
• Fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) data
• Fish IBI Round 1 data
• Ambient Lakes Monitoring Panel 1 and Panel 2 data
• Sediment Toxicity data

Data for the following 2 networks, which are cooperative networks between DEP and USGS, are available from the following sources: (1) the USGS computerized data system, NWISWeb (National Water Information System), (2) EPA's computerized data system, STORET (Surface water data only!) and (3) USGS's annual reports Water Resources Data-New Jersey

• Surface Water Chemical Monitoring Network data
• Ambient Ground Water Monitoring Network data

Marine/Coastal Water Data

Data for the following 2 monitoring networks are available from both the Bureau of Marine Water Monitoring’s website as well as EPA’s computerized data system, STORET

• Coastal Water Quality Network Monitoring data
• Shellfish Waters Classification data

Additionally, from April to November, data on the water quality at 6 coastal locations in Atlantic, Ocean and Cape May counties are available to the public on the Internet

• Real-time Coastal Water Quality data

Window to My Environment

Information from both STORET and NWIS is also available through USEPA's "Window To My Environment" (WME), a powerful web-based tool providing a wide range of federal, state, and local information about environmental conditions/features in an area of your choice. Using WME, you can find our fresh and marine ambient water quality monitoring stations in your area of interest and download our water quality monitoring results directly to your personal computer. After choosing your location (via either ZIP code or city/town and State), WME will provide the following:

• Interactive Map - shows locations of regulated facilities, monitoring sites, water bodies, population density, perspective topographic views as well as hotlinks to state/federal information about these items.
• Your Window - provides selected geographic statistics about your area of interest, including estimated population, county/urban area designations, local watersheds/waterbodies, etc.
• Your Environment - links to information from federal, state, and local partners on environmental issues like air and water quality, watershed health, Superfund sites, fish advisories, impaired waters, as well as local environmental services in your area.
