Homeowners Insurance Policy Summaries

Starting in June 2015, consumers buying or renewing homeowners insurance will receive a one-page summary of their policy that clearly explains its terms, coverages and exclusions.

The one-page summaries, which are required by legislation signed into law by Governor Christie in 2013 (P.L. 2013, c.53), are aimed at helping consumers better understand their homeowners policies.

The Department, in consultation with the State's insurers, has developed model summaries for homeowners, renters, condominium, mobile home and dwelling fire policies. These summaries explain the common coverages, note general policy features, and delineate the notable coverages and exclusions by type of loss.

Please note that the summaries below are templates that may not be used by all companies. The new law allows insurers whose homeowners policy does not fit into the templates developed by the Department to create their own one-page summary document, subject to Department review.
