Last month, DRBC staff presented at the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin's (WRADRB) 56th Annual Fall Conference, held October 16 at Skytop Lodge, Skytop, Pa. Established in 1959, the non-profit, non-partisan WRADRB brings together basin water users from industry, public and private utilities, and other organizations to promote public information and water resource management.
This year's conference, themed Upstream, Downstream, and the Turning Tide: Applying Science to Policy in the Delaware River Basin, was organized into three sessions:
- Flow Management in the Delaware River
- Delaware River Basin Water Quality: Vision, Implementation, and Outcomes
- Hot Topics in the Basin
Each session included several presentations and culminated with the presenters sitting down for a collective Q&A panel with conference attendees.
- Amy Shallcross, P.E., DRBC Water Resource Operations Manager, presented History and Practice of Flow Management in the Delaware River Basin (pdf 1.7 MB) during Session 1. Ms. Shallcross' presentation provided a brief history of and discussed DRBC's role in flow management in the basin. Learn more.
- Pamela Bush, J.D., M.R.P., DRBC Secretary and Assistant General Counsel, presented DRBC's Special Protection Waters Program at 25 (pdf 5.2 MB) during Session 2. Special Protection Waters (SPW) is a DRBC water quality program designed to prevent degradation of the high quality waters of the non-tidal river. Learn more about SPW.
- Thomas Fikslin, Ph.D., DRBC Director of Science and Water Quality Management, presented Research and Policy Decisions: Aquatic Life Uses in the Delaware Estuary (pdf 1.1 MB) during Session 3. The DRBC is reviewing aquatic life uses in the Delaware River Estuary in recognition of improved water quality. Learn more about this multi-year effort.
DRBC staff work hard to fulfill the commission’s mission of managing and protecting the basin’s water resources. Being able to participate in conferences and educate others about DRBC and what we do are also important parts of that mission.
