A Long Drink of Water
Delaware
Delaware River Sojourners launch their canoes and kayaks from the Ten Mile River Access, beginning Day 1 of the Sojourn. On this portion of the trek they traveled to Minisink Ford, N.Y. and enjoyed paddling the federally designated Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. The theme for the 2006 Delaware River Sojourn was a Long Drink of Water, which recognized the river's vital role in supplying drinking water to millions of people, including two of America's largest cities. The Delaware is the longest un-dammed river east of the Mississippi, stretching 330 miles from the confluence of its East and West branches in Hancock, N.Y. to the mouth of the Delaware Bay where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. The river, indeed offers a Long Drink of Water.
