Questions and Concerns
You may choose to paddle the entire sojourn or you may register for the day(s) of your choice. Spaces are limited, so register early! And remember ... we paddle rain or shine! Should there be unsafe high water, alternate activities will be offered and planned meals/camping will still be provided.
The Delaware River Sojourn is a non-profit event and is planned and priced as a package. Contributions of time, goods and services from our many sponsors and supporters allow us to keep participant costs as low as possible. Included in the daily registration fee is canoe or kayak rental plus paddles and life jacket, shuttling participants and the boats to and/or from launch and take-out sites, 2-3 meals a day plus some snacks/water, educational programming (about 2-3 programs a day centered around each year's theme), camping fees, and a commemorative T-shirt.
2009's registration rates will remain the same as last year:
Registration after June 1, 2009: Daily fee of $70 for participants 16 and older and $50 for children 15 and under.
In addition to the daily fee, there is a one-time insurance fee of $5 per person. Current American Canoe Association (ACA) members do NOT have to pay this one-time insurance fee since they are already covered under their ACA membership (please provide your ACA membership number and expiration date on the sojourn registration form).
Delaware River Sojourn Discount for First-Time Adult Paddlers: We are sorry, but this discount is no longer available.
Cancellation Policy: Refunds will be given (by written request), minus a $25/person processing fee, if the cancellation is received on or before noon on Friday, June 19, 2009. Refunds after noon on Friday, June 19, 2009 will be determined on a case by case basis, minus a $25/person processing fee.
By registering, you are granting the Sojourn permission to use your image in future Sojourn promotional and educational materials.
While mail-in registration is no longer available, interested parties may still register from June 18 until two days prior to the day they wish to paddle. Participants can either register online at http://riversojourn.org/sojournstore/index.php with a credit card or they can call in their registration information to DeJay Branch of the Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition at (646) 205-2724. For those who choose to call in, please leave your name, contact information, day(s) you wish to paddle and # of people, whether you (and those with you, if applicable) will need a canoe or kayak or are bringing your own, and whether you plan to camp; a cash or check payment will then be collected at that morning’s check-in.
A limited number of “walk-in” registrants will be accepted on the morning of each sojourn day, provided that space is still available on the trip; however, it is recommended to register ahead of time to definitively secure a spot on the sojourn.
Please Note: A separate liability waiver form must be completed for each sojourn participant. Please fill out and send to:
Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition, Attn: Sojourn, P.O. Box 252, Narrowsburg, NY 12719
If registering after June 18, 2009, please fill out and bring to the Sojourn with you to hand in at morning check-in.
Minor Waiver Form for Those Under Age 18 at the Time of Registration*
You may use your own river-worthy boat or rent canoes/one-or two-person kayaks from the Sojourn (shuttle transportation and rental costs are already included in the sojourn registration fee). The registration fee is the same if you bring your own vessel. The shuttling/handling of the boats is costly to the liveries we use, which is why the fee is the same regardless if you bring your boat or not.
If renting a canoe, only two participants are allowed per boat, except that non-paddling children under age 12 may ride as a third person in a parent's canoe. Life jackets and paddles are provided with rentals. All participants must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD) at all times on the river. Aluminum canoes are not recommended.
Leave your vehicle at the rendezvous site each day. Shuttles will transport you and your boat to and from the put-in or take-out. Your camping gear will stay with your vehicle. We paddle rain or shine, so bring rain gear, extra sweaters, hat, sunscreen, eyeglass retainers, sunglasses, and a long sleeve shirt. Wear river shoes, river sandals, or old sneakers. Bring waterproof containers for gear. Bring a camp or folding chair for evening/campfire programs.
At least two meals are provided each day. Additional meals may be provided compliments of sojourn sponsors. In some cases meals may be on your own. A meal schedule will be provided upon registration. Sorry, we cannot accommodate special diets, although we do offer vegetarian meal options. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the river. Camping is provided at commercial and state campgrounds (included in the registration fee). All sites have toilets, drinking water, and emergency access. Some sites may not have showers.

Sojourn organizers make every effort to provide participants with a safe trip, and we are insured and sanctioned by the American Canoe Association, Inc. All individuals must sign a waiver and follow the instructions of the safety staff; to download waiver forms, please see "Registration Information and Forms" section above. Failure to follow instructions and/or engaging in unsafe activity will result in termination of your trip without refund. Canoe and safety instruction is provided each morning. Attendance at morning safety instruction as well as a signed waiver form for each sojourn participant is mandatory.
