On October 23, 2001, the Delaware River Sojourn received an "Environmental Partnership Award" from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Environmental Partners. This congratulatory letter from Governor Schweiker also was presented.

These awards are presented for achieving excellence in environmental protection or conservation in northeastern Pennsylvania. Furthermore, award recipients must have demonstrated the quality of involving and working successfuly with others in pursuit of their accomplishments.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Environmental Partners is a coalition of Wilkes University; Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Northeast Office; Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance; Procter & Gamble Paper Products Company; PPL Corporation; Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection; and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
