The United States Geological Survey has begun an investigation of the surface water and aquifer systems in the Delaware River Basin. The investigation is part of the National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program that began in 1991 to describe the status and trends in the quality of the nation's ground and surface waters. The Delaware River Basin (DELR) NAWQA study began in 1997.
