The Golden Gate 21st Century Community Learning Center is an afterschool program for students in grades four through six. The program is built upon: 1) the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, 2) the evaluation of enrichment activities and the impact on student achievement, 3) the encouragement of family and community involvement in learning, and 4) the forging of a strong bond between parent and child. Students will receive support in Language Arts and Math with activities that include small group instruction, homework help, tutoring, test preparation and project-based learning. In addition, an 8 week summer program titled: The Summer Blitz, will expose students to career/job opportunities. The Center will involve local businesses and organizations in its youth development education initiative. This service learning program will teach students to apply their academic skills and knowledge to address real-life needs in their own communities, while developing an ethic of service and civic responsibility.
