Abstract:
Greater Paterson OIC partners with the Paterson Board of Education to offer the 21st Century Community Learning Center After-school Program to middle school students at Public School 4 and School 13. This after-school program is designed to meet the 21st CCLC requirement in assisting low-performing schools and economically-disadvantaged families in receiving a quality educational program in their community.
GPOIC’s 21st CCLC After-school program operates inside each school and runs 5 days a week Monday-Friday, from 3:15 pm-6:15 pm during the school year. Activities include tutoring, academic remediation, instruction in language arts, reading, math, and science, youth leadership activities, volunteer and community service opportunities, college preparation, prevention programs, homework assistance, courses and enrichment in the arts and culture, language instruction (including employment preparation or training) mentoring, supervised recreation, athletic programs and events.
Specialized workshops are offered to both adults and youth. Adult workshops include parenting, financial, and computer literacy. Youth workshops are used to stimulate and communicate messages and incorporates creative writing, arts, drama, media, music and dance to show the youth how to express their feelings constructively and as a tool to channel emotions that they may be experiencing. At least 4 educational filed trips are planned for the youth to participate in during the course of the school year.
