Abstract:
The vision for our 21st CCLC Program is to provide comprehensive after-school program, which will enhance academic skills, cultural and artistic opportunities, positive youth development experiences, improve social skills, physical active development and participation in sports to enable our students to improve their performance across academic areas. This will be evidenced by improved performance on the New Jersey benchmark assessments, NJ ASK 5-6, improved attendance, and reduction in referrals for disciplinary reasons. The plan is to coordinate program services across two schools: Newcomb School Isaiah Haines School, serving 5-6th grades. The 21st Century Community Learning Center Program allows all 5-6th grade participating students and their families to be able to take advantage of enrichment activities not currently available in the Pemberton School Community. The program offers diverse clubs and activities based on a rotating schedule every 7-8 weeks throughout the school year. Among the activities offered are: intramural sports, technology, science lab, yearbook, cheerleading, theatre arts, band and choir and bowling. These clubs will offer academic enrichment in a more relaxed and interesting setting, where students can select semester-long activities according to their own preferences. Students will interact with college mentors, teachers, parents, and volunteers.
