Abstract:
Through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program, the Red Bank Borough School System has established the After School Collaborative for Integrated Learning Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Technology. This is an effort to engage students, particularly from traditionally underrepresented groups, through extended learning opportunities in these content areas. The Collaborative partners are the Stevens Institute of Technology, the Red Bank Borough School District, and the Summer/Saturday Institute for The Gifted Institute. Stevens Institute’s Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education (CIESE) and the Summer Institute for the Gifted Organization will provide staff development through a broad array of learning opportunities that are designed to help students attain the skills necessary to meet the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and enhance the quality and frequency of educational after-school services provided in the Red Bank Borough School District. Although the emphasis of the After-School Collaborative will be on four key content areas, there will be sufficient opportunities for cultural enrichment, recreation, tutoring, character development, and increased parental participation.

The After-School Collaborative is expected to fill an academic and community need that has existed in the Red Bank Borough School District.
