Responsibility and Purpose
The Higher Education Coordinator will help to provide leadership
to four- and two-year institutions of higher education
for diverse, exemplary traditional and alternative preparation
of New Jersey’s teachers, administrators, and educational
services personnel so that educators can create a superior
education by utilizing multiple and diverse paths to success
for all children in New Jersey.
Strategic Goals
In support of
the Department of Education’s Strategic
Plan for Systemic Improvement for Education in New Jersey,
the Higher Education Coordinator has four strategic goals:

To
provide leadership for state four- and two-year college
related initiatives that promote quality in education; |

To
provide leadership to four- and two-year institutions
of higher education for traditional and college-based
alternative preparation of New Jersey teachers, administrators,
and educational services personnel; |
| |

 |
To
manage the development, approval, implementation,
and evaluation of programs for instructional, educational
services, and administrator licensure preparation
programs in New Jersey colleges and universities; |

 |
To
provide leadership through representative service
to statewide advisory panels, federal agencies, professional
organizations and individual constituents that focus
on issues in education and government. |

Establishing
and maintaining partnerships with national accreditation
agencies (TEAC and NCATE) |

Fulfilling
state role for national accreditation of colleges
and universities as they pursue/continue national

consultation on current trends and state regulations
for design of new and revised programs |

Utilizing
code (N.J.A.C
6A:9) to approve new and revised
professional education licensure programs for nearly
1000 individual programs in 21 institutions on
24 campuses |
Alternative and Innovative Preparation Pathways
 |
Providing
leadership and facilitation to four- and two-year
colleges that wish to engage in design and implementation
of research-based innovative and alternative
preparation programs for New Jersey educators |
