Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Conackamack Middle School has a comprehensive school counseling program, which includes lessons for students, taught by counselors throughout the year on topics such as bullying awareness, social problem solving and academic achievement.  The counselors also offer parent workshops in the evening and work with individuals and small groups of students, identifying particular areas of need and providing targeted mentoring services.  Working closely with teachers and other school personnel, they maintain close contact and help students stay on track to attain positive academic, social and behavioral growth.  Conackamack has a Peer Mediation Team staffed with trained 7th and 8th grade students who are supervised by the counselors and trained teachers.  Counselors also facilitate conflict resolution in situations that cannot be handled by Peer Mediators, an important intervention to help students solve problems before they commit discipline infractions.  Counselors collaborate regularly with interdisciplinary teams to address the academic, behavioral and social needs of our students, and maintain regular contact with parents regarding the progress and performance of their children.
