New Jersey Grade 12 Pilot, Reading (0-500 scale score points)

  • New Jersey twelfth-grade students had an average scale score (288) that was not different from six states and the nation (287), higher than two states, and lower than two states, Massachusetts (295) and New Hampshire (293).
  • For all the major reporting groups, New Jersey twelfth-grade students scored the same as their counterparts in the nation. 
  • New Jersey twelfth-grade females had an average scale score (294) that was higher than the twelfth-grade males (282).  The New Jersey gender gap (12 scale score points) was not different from the nation’s gender gap (12 scale score points).
  • New Jersey’s white/Black achievement gap of 28 scale score points did not differ from the 27 scale score points for the nation. 
  • New Jersey’s white/Hispanic achievement gap of 22 scale score points did not differ from the 22 scale score points for the nation.

New Jersey Grade 12 Pilot, Mathematics (0-300 scale score points)

  • New Jersey twelfth-grade students has an average scale score (156) that was higher four states and the nation (152), not different from three states, and lower than three states, Massachusetts (163), New Hampshire (160) and South Dakota (160).

  • For all the major reporting groups except male, female and white, the New Jersey twelfth-grade students did not differ from their counterparts in the nation.
  • New Jersey twelfth-grade males had an average scale score (157) that did not differ from the New Jersey females (156).  Unlike other states, the New Jersey twelfth-grade students did not demonstrate a gender gap in mathematics.
  • New Jersey’s white/Black achievement gap of 31 scale score points did not differ from the 29 scale score points for the nation. 
  • New Jersey’s white/Hispanic achievement gap of 26 scale score points did not differ from the 23 scale score points for the nation.
