“Using ELL Tools Effectively: WIDA Standards for Instruction and Assessment

This presentation was sponsored by the Office of Specialized Populations, Bureau of Bilingual/ESL Education to introduce school district personnel to the WIDA Consortium English Language Proficiency Standards for English Language Learners in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Topics that were addressed were the following:

  • Examining how the WIDA standards form the basis for the ACCESS for ELLs test;
  • Presenting the WIDA language proficiency standards framework and the model performance indicators which represent the full range of linguistic complexity students must acquire for both social and academic purposes; and
  • Demonstrating how the WIDA standards framework can be linked to the New Jersey ESL standards and used to augment district ESL curricula.
